Last night in his speech before congress, President Obama said, “I will not waste time with those who have made the calculation that it’s better politics to kill this plan than improve it. I will not stand by while the special interests use the same old tactics to keep things exactly the way they are. If you misrepresent what’s in the plan, we will call you out. And I will not accept the status quo as a solution. Not this time. Not now.”
I love that he said, “I will not accept the status quo as a solution.” I love that he said it in this speech, in front of congress, and broadcast to the American people. And I wonder how many presidents in the history of the United States have had the integrity and the audacity to ever say, “I will not accept the status quo as a solution.”
But it’s my opinion that we need a mass movement of people in this country who are willing to say, “I will not accept the status quo as a solution.” That the president said it is awesome; it’s incredible and possibly unprecedented, coming from someone at that level of power. But it is not enough.
