Curiously, 9/11 disabused me of many notions I’d had about conspiracies over the years (JFK, CIA, UFOs, blah blah blah). I realized in one crystalline moment that the governing force in the universe is chaos. Chaos enabled on Earth by incompetence, maliciousness and gross self-interest.
People that believe in massive conspiracies have fallen victim to a fundamentally infantile impulse. A belief that everything that happens in the world is guided by an unseen hand. It’s kind of like thinking the sun is pulled across the sky by a chariot driven by Apollo.
